It was Pablo Picasso who said “Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone."  One artist’s words to live and create by, but not to be so for Cleveland based artist, Scott Miller, whose sudden and unfortunate death in May of 2008 left much undone and much in question.  By all accounts, Miller was a flourishing regional talent who was experiencing success beyond his Northeast Ohio home.  Art dealer and curator, William Busta called Miller "certainly one of the most important artists in Cleveland in the late 20th century." Miller at age 53 was already in prominent collections including Peter B. Lewis, Philanthropist; Richard Armstrong, Director, Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; Hugh Hefner, Playboy Enterprises; Henry Hawley, Head Curator, Cleveland Museum of Art; Flemming Flindt, Choreographer; Akron Museum of Art; British Petroleum and Allen Ginsberg, Poet.

It is not surprising that it has taken until now for the Miller Trust to inventory the extensive collection of work that remains as part of the prolific artist’s legacy.  IN MEMORANDUM opens four years after Miller’s death and reflects the Trust’s desire to remember the artist and to reintroduce the art he created. The exhibit will feature significant works spanning more than four decades.
Scott Miller studied at the Cooper School of Art in Cleveland before graduating in 1983 from the Cleveland Institute of Art, where he received his BFA.  He was a very productive and dynamic artist with a large personality and a significant body of work which varied in style, technique and principle.
Given Miller’s short-lived life, the number of galleries and museums throughout the world that showed his work is remarkable.  Locally, his work was part of significant exhibits at the Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art, N.O.V.A, Spaces Gallery and the Cleveland Museum of Art. Venues beyond Cleveland included Akron Museum of Art, Akron OH.; Kent State Center Gallery, Kent, OH; Art Lick Gallery - San Francisco, CA; World Tattoo Gallery - New York, NY; Penson Gallery - New York, NY; Feature Gallery - New York, NY; Artemesia Gallery and Hyde Park Institute, Chicago, IL; Don O'Mellveny Gallery, Klapper Gallery and Edgar Varela Fine Arts,  Los Angeles, CA; Lucky Street Gallery, Key West, FLA; Weller/Potosky Gallery, Toronto, Canada and the Modern Museum of Art, Paris, France. Miller’s final exhibition closed May 10, 2008 at the Edgar Varela Gallery in Los Angeles, one week before his death.
